One year ago this week...

Last summer at this time, Chris and I took off for a long weekend in Estes Park, CO. A bunch of our friends from college have made it a tradition to take a canoeing trip every summer since we graduated, and last year we decided to do something a little more intense--white water rafting. We shipped Carter off to spend 4th of July weekend with the grandparents and headed out to the mountains. We had an awesome time--beautiful weather, great rapids and lots of laughing with wonderful friends (as usual). As we approach this holiday weekend, it brought back great memories and I had to dig up some pictures.

Chris and I are on the right side of the raft in the front two seats. The water was a little chilly--around 60 degrees I think.

Here we are hitting one of the rapids. One of our friends Jacque was in the other raft and she actually fell out into the river. The others in her raft quickly rescued her and pulled her back in, but as soon as we knew she was ok, we just died laughing. I never thought I'd actually get to see somebody fall out! It's one of those memories that will stay with me forever...
Paddle high five!
We spent one evening at a little karaoke bar in downtown Estes...
And here's the whole gang. Several couples couldn't make it on this trip, but we'll definitely have to do it again!

  1. For the record, I would like to point out that the guide was attempting to throw other rafters out of the raft, and I just happened to be an innocent bystander. He even said it was not my fault. Yes, the event was funny, but I was frickin cold. Mindy thanks for the stroll down memory lane; I almost forgot the cold water.
I love reading about the adventures of the Allen crew, so keep up the great work Mindy (and Chris, I am sure you are a big help).
    Take care,
    Jacque

  2. You crack me up, Jacq! I really am sorry that you had to be the victim, but I will never forget how that weird guy kept trying to push you under the water, while trying to get himself out of the river. Seriously, I laugh out loud every time I think of this story. Love you!
