4th of July - 2009

We spent the 4th of July weekend visiting my sister and her husband in Riley. Junction City has a big celebration every year called Sundown Salute, and we decided to check out the festivities on Saturday. After changing Carter's clothes three times (he was WAY to excited to let us know he needed to potty), we finally got going. First we watched the AMAZING ANIMAL EXPERIENCE...we saw a horse, a monkey, tigers, a fox, etc. Carter was interested, but it was so crowded, it was kind of hard to see the show.

Then we went over to the kids zone where Grandpa helped Carter practiced his putting.
Then he did a little drumming...
...and a little bubble-blowin' with Aunt Lou. There was also a carnival set up in the streets, so we choked down the cost of a few pricey tickets so Carter could enjoy some rides. First stop--the carousel.Daddy and Carter also rode the Sizzler (similar to the Scrambler). This cute little smile quickly turned to panic as the ride went a lot faster than we anticipated. He made it through the whole ride, but I don't think he was wanting to try that one again any time soon. After the rides, we decided to have a late lunch at Kite's Bar & Grill in downtown Junction City. Carter enjoyed sipping out of mommy's pop. After lunch, both boys started to melt down a bit, so we decided to head back to Jay and Lindsay's house for the evening. They had just gotten a new toy--a Razr--and all the boys took turns riding all over the metropolis of Riley. Grandpa and Jay even rode it downtown to pick up our pizza for dinner!

Here's Chris and Jay heading out for a ride.

Carter thought he was BIG STUFF riding as well.
Then it was time for fireworks. Carter started small on the porch throwing snap pops on the ground. I'm pretty sure he went through about 10 boxes of those things! When Chris and Jay started shooting off the bigger, louder fireworks in the driveway, Carter kept his distance. He kept telling me, "Mommy, I'm just a little scared."

This is a small portion of the explosives... Carter took a break to bring his daddy a cold beverage...such a good helper :).Meanwhile, Asher stayed inside practicing his big smiles and worked on shaking his rattle. Being a baby is hard work.Later that evening, we headed to Randolph for a fantastic fireworks display. Carter had the best seat in the park. And finally, just a random shot of Carter's best "Yee-haw" pose.
We had a great weekend and hope everyone else had a wonderful 4th of July!
