Remembering Grandma Hubert

Last October, after a brief illness, my dear, sweet grandma passed away. Since our family and her friends are so spread out across the U.S., we decided to hold a memorial service for her several weeks later in November. So many special people took time out of their day to attend the service, and we witnessed an incredible tribute to this amazing woman.
No words that I write here could do her justice, but let me just say that she made our days brighter and our lives fuller. My sister and I had the pleasure of growing up with her and my grandpa just a few miles away. We spent lots of time with them, and are better people for it. Although they had lived out of state for the past 15+ years, we still got to see them often, and she knew our children well. She adored each one of us, and we never doubted that. She was one of those larger-than-life personalities, and her laugh was even LARGER. Everyone in earshot of her laugh would pause and start laughing as well. She loved vulgar things--discussing farts, her BULLSHIT button, snap-pop firecrackers under the toilet seat, and she wore a crystal-embellished "OH SHIT" pin to my sister's wedding. Truly one of a kind. I am forever grateful that she got to meet each of her great grand kids, and they adored her as well. The month before she died, she had a rather critical surgery. All the grand kids put our heads together and came up with "100 things we love about Grandma" and documented them all on a giant card. We presented that card to her in the hospital before her surgery, and she just beamed. Our years together were too few, but she will never be forgotten.
The following pictures were taken the day of Grandma's memorial service.

Each of the women in the family took a turn dancing with Grandpa at the end of the service.

All of the Great Grandkids (L-R): Asher, Carter, Caysen, Foster, Hayden, Naia, Irelyn, Evan, Micah, Maxwell, Judah & Tyler.
That evening, we gathered at a local hotel and enjoyed pizza and drinks with family and friends. The adults all toasted Grandma with a Canadian Mist shot (her favorite drink).

The next morning, we had a small burial service at the cemetery.
Grandma loved the character Maxine, and had lots of her figurines. Grandpa and the kids thought it was fitting that Grandma's ashes be buried in her Maxine cookie jar. :)

Just a couple more pictures from after the burial at our house with family.

I also want to document that Carter sang Amazing Grace at the memorial service with Chris and I. There weren't many dry eyes around, as his sweet little voice rang through the room. Below is a video of the song--the beginning is a little shaky, but it gets better.
